The Austrian Ombudsman Board (AOB) is pleased to assume the 2022 chairmanship of the SEE NPM Network. The AOB has been an active member of the network since 2013 and highly values the network as a forum for exchange of knowledge and experiences on human rights standards and monitoring under the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (OPCAT) in the South-East European region. In 2016, the AOB successfully organized two meetings in Salzburg and Vienna on the topic of “Homes for the elderly – standards in health care and medication-based deprivation of liberty”, this year’s topics will be decided in collaboration with SEE NPM Network members in due course. The AOB is looking forward to welcoming SEE NPM Network members again in Austria this year and to a fruitful exchange on topics relevant for the South-East European NPMs.
